Tables are the foundation of our FrontPage Templates and HTML Web Templates design!

...While tables can sometimes seem intimidating to learn, nothing will allow you to control your page layout with the same precision.  It is well worth the time and effort it takes to master them. Your FrontPage® Help Section or the Microsoft website provide in-depth tutorials and we urge you to use them! We'll just add some quick pointers.

Forms are the "Keys to the Kingdom"

People LOVE filling out forms, and if they fill YOURS out, you get the most valuable tools available to any Internet business - feedback, information, and an "identity" for some of your important customers...

If you set a table width to 100%, it will expand and contract to your viewers screen resolution.
Not everyone has a 21" monitor.  Today's optimum browser size is 800 x 600 followed closely by 1028 x 768.  Only 12% of viewers are using 640 x 480.  But don't forget you will have some WebTV viewers.  "Liquid" tables - those that resize themselves - allow your pages to be viewed easily by more people.
If you have a table with multiple columns, you can set one (or more) columns to a fixed pixel width and set the remaining column to a width of 100%.  This allows the table to expand and contract, but leaves specific columns looking the same in all resolutions.
Setting a table background will work in Internet Explorer, but will not have the same look in Netscape.  It is best to assign any colors or images to each table cell instead.
You can easily place a table within a table (called "nested" tables.)

Working with Forms:

The FrontPage Templates and HTML Web Templates come with several forms - none of them are activated, since they must work with YOUR website and fill your needs. There is a LOT of information in FrontPage about Forms, so following are just a few brief tips...

Right-Click inside any form... a box will come up - choose "Form Properties".

This box is pretty straightforward - you must instruct the form where you want the results to be sent. The options given seem simple - do you want the results sent to a ".txt" file? Or, do you want the results to go straight into a database?

Study the options in the FrontPage Help section. There are varied levels of complexity, but if you just want the information to be emailed to you in a readable format, with the Fields and Answers together, choose the "OPTIONS" button...

Inside the Options area, there are four tabbed pages - read through these. You can select helpful options such as the Time, Date and Browser/IP address the form was sent from...

You can choose what information will be displayed on the Subject and From lines if you have the form results emailed...

You can choose and direct the user to a personalized "Thank You" or "Confirmation" page when they have finished and submitted the form.

Once you have made all of your selections, you simply Save the form page - when it's published to your website, the actions you have specified will be how the information your user/customer submits is sent to you!
